Original Art by Belgium-based Multidisciplinary Artist, Kaye Outhwaite

I follow my thread of life, seeking emancipation from compliance and the normative. Who I am crosses many socially constructed lines, leaving me outside all boxes. I use art to explore boundaries, connections, and violations, asking what it means to be human.

Exploring Identity, Boundaries & the Body Through Art.

I'm Kaye Outhwaite (b. 1987), a queer multidisciplinary artist based in Belgium, born in Britain, and my creative journey continues to unfold.

My work focuses on boundaries, connections, and violations, asking what it means to be human. I explore these themes through multiple media and disciplines, including animation, experimental writing, ink drawings, music, and oil painting.

I'm inspired by the pursuit of emancipation from compliance and by an urge to understand the socially constructed lines in Europe. I'm moved by the exploration of activist portraits, introspective self-portraits, and the blurred boundary between man-made and natural worlds, particularly through landscape photography.

My work has been influenced by Gia Edzgveradze's existential and transcendent works Mind the Gap and Outlines of the White Manifesto, by Richard Long's line-obsessed practice, and by the feminist The Doll series by surrealist artist Hans Bellmer.

'A Garden Beneath the Skin' Original Artwork
€350.00

Description:

A Garden Beneath the Skin uses the softness of pastel acrylic paint to highlight the artist's femininity while exploring the experience of being a trans man. The work is presented across three separate wooden panels, reflecting both the artist's crossing of boundaries and society's attempts to place him within fixed categories. Although the panels create divisions, the imagery and symbolism move across them, suggesting that identity cannot be neatly contained. The artist exists beyond the boundaries imposed upon him, while the structures attempting to categorise him ultimately fail.
